MASHED POTATOES – Ultra Creamy and Smooth

It’s Holiday Season, the time when we get together with our family and friends. As a result, we enjoy each other’s company and are thankful.

The get together also means food, lots of food. For instance, a holiday feast often include a roasted turkey. The turkey is often the masterpiece and mashed potatoes everyone’s favorite side .

mashed potatoes

If you know me, you know that I love mashed potatoes. I can eat them for lunch and dinner. They are a staple during the holidays for my family and I.

So as the holidays approach, here is a creamy and smooth mashed potato, best paired with a roasted turkey, chicken or steak. Thankfully, this recipe is easy to make and will wow your guests or your family!

Let’s go over the ingredients needed.

Ingredients

  • 5 medium size Potatoes (Idaho or Gold potatoes)
  • 4 tbsp of Unsalted Butter
  • 3 tbsp of Cream Cheese
  • 1/4 cup of Half and Half (or whole milk)
  • Salt
  • Back Pepper

Now let’s get started!

Prepping the potatoes

  • Peel the potatoes and cut in similar sizes. Rinse in cold water.
  • Transfer into a pot, add water and salt. Cover the pot  and bring to a boil.
  • Once it starts boiling, slightly uncover the pot and boil at medium high heat.

In the meantime

  • While the potatoes are boiling, cut the butter and cream cheese in smaller pieces. It helps during the mashing process.
  • Once the potatoes are cooked (a knife should go in and out easily), drain the potatoes.

Mashing

  • Return the drained potatoes into the pot and set the heat on medium low.
  • Let the potatoes dry out for about a minute.
  • Start mashing until you get the desired texture.
  • Season with salt and black pepper.
  • Add the butter and mash (the butter should melt easily because of the heat).
  • Add the cream cheese and mash.
  • Now use a spatula to stir and better combine all the ingredients.
  • Add 1/4 cup of warmed half and half (or whole milk).
  • Gently stir to combine everything.
  • Do a taste check and add more salt if needed.

It’s ready to be served. Serve with some yummy Roasted Turkey or Roasted Chicken. Checkout my easy baked chicken thighs recipe.

Notes

Picking your potatoes : choose either Idaho or Gold. They work best for this recipe in my opinion.
Milk: I prefer half and half but whole milk works fine too.
