About

Welcome to Afro Mom Spices,

My name is Fatou, a Guinean currently living in Illinois USA. I am a working military spouse, and a mother of three. I was born and raised in Guinea Conakry. At the age of 16, I moved to Djibouti where I lived for two years and graduated High School. I then moved to France for college. I lived there for four years and earned my bachelor’s in Economics. Afterwards, I moved to the United States where I graduated with a M.A in Economics. Meanwhile, I had the chance to visit a few different African countries (Senegal, Togo, RDC, Congo, Ethiopia…) for summer break.

My childhood is full of memories. One of my favorite’s was keeping a journal. I sat in my bedroom and wrote recipes that I thought were important down. I would date, time and sign at the end of each page.Mostly, it was my mom’s recipes. But later, I started writing recipes shared by family members or neighbors. Besides, I would add notes/ideas that I thought would give a different taste to the dish. I loved the idea of making a dish in different ways. I also enjoyed going back and reading recipes from time to time.

The love of cooking came early to me. Growing up, I loved sitting by mom’s side whenever she was cooking, even though I sometimes thought it was a chore. In fact, most Guinean meals take long to cook (about 2 hours). As a working mom, I feel as if it can be hard to balance cooking them while busy with work and kids.

Firstly, I will share not only easy to make recipes but also authentic Guinean recipes for the mommies that want to learn the real deal.

Secondly, I will include recipes inspired from all the countries I have lived in, with my personal touch on them. These recipes will help the busy mommies out there but also the ones who are looking for either flavorful meals or authentic taste.

In the end, I would say that this blog is a food blog. I want to share the recipes I know with my African touch in it. Hopefully, you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy sharing them .

To sum up, I Thank you for stopping by and I hope you stick around. Subscribe to my blog at the bottom of the page , subscribe to my YouTube channel here and follow me on social media @afromomspices to stay up to date on the shenanigans of afromomspices.com
